The North-East Sussex Branch covers the area of Burwash, Crowborough, Heathfield, Horam, Maresfield, Uckfield and Wadhurst. The rural nature of our branch means that our 70-plus pubs are dispersed across a wide area. Public transport is patchy in this area but the following options, which take in many of our pubs, are available:
- Southern trains offer a direct service Monday to Saturday from London Bridge via East Croydon to Uckfield (which goes through Crowborough). On Sundays, the same route can be accessed changing either at East Croydon or Oxted.
- Brighton & Hove Buses offer the Route 29 family of services which connect Brighton with Tunbridge Wells and Heathfield. The service goes through Uckfield, Buxted, Eridge and Crowborough. Connections can be made to other routes and other operators covering various parts of Kent and East Sussex at, for example, Tunbridge Wells, Uckfield and Lewes.
- The new 500 service offered by Metrobus runs 24/7 from Eastbourne to Gatwick South, taking in Hailsham, East Hoathly, Uckfield, Forest Row and East Grinstead.
- Stagecoach operates the 51 route from Heathfield to Tunbridge Wells via Rotherfield.
- Compass Travel operates the 261 service from Uckfield to East Grinstead Rail Station, serving Maresfield, Nutley, Wych Cross and Forest Row.
- Wealdlink operates three services on limited days of the week linking Crowborough with Wadhurst, Mayfield and some of the other, smaller communities in the North Wealden area.
- East Sussex County Council offers the Flexibus Bookable Rideshare service (Monday to Friday). This can be used across the area covered by the branch to travel to places within a 9-mile radius of your pick-up point along routes not already served by a direct bus.
All of the branch’s pubs featured in the Good Beer Guide can be accessed by public transport. We hope both branch members and visitors consider using these services to enjoy a broad range of CAMRA pubs and events in our area, particularly those off the beaten track.
